Baby Shoe Size Guide
Buying shoes for babies who are not old enough to walk can be a bit of a challenge because you have no way of knowing whether they fit comfortably. The truth is, they do not really need shoes until they start to walk. They do need something to keep their feet warm however, and shoes seem to be the logical choice. Before getting a pair it is a good idea to make sure they will fit properly.
Measurement
Measure your baby’s foot from heel to toe. You may find it easier to trace their foot on a sheet of paper and measure the tracing. It is difficult to keep a baby’s foot still long enough to measure it. Enlist the help of a partner if your little one has the tendency to wiggle. Round the measurement up to the nearest quarter-inch. Baby shoe sizes change at approximately every quarter-inch. Do not add length for toe room.
Function
Toddlers require well-fitted shoes with soft soles when learning to walk. Shoes protect feet from injury and provide stability in walking and climbing. A proper fit allows your baby to develop their walking skills in comfort. For younger babies, shoes provide warmth, but function mainly as a cute addition to complete an outfit.
